Chocolate & Cold Brew Coffee Croissant Buns

Chocolate & Cold Brew Coffee Croissant Buns | TermiNatetor Kitchen Chocolate & Cold Brew Coffee Croissant Buns | TermiNatetor Kitchen

Hello, friends.

Little known fact: I love croissants! They’re just the better-looking older sibling of the yeast dough family. A warm croissant with a thin layer of butter, a cup of coffee, and a good book, and you have my idea of paradise (or a perfect Sunday afternoon). With Thanksgiving in a couple of weeks, I have teamed with Califia Farms to bring you a sweet, chocolatey treat which is just the thing to get you through the holiday's emotionally sane. I’m talking about two things: coffee and chocolate. If you follow my Instagram, you know that I am obsessed with coffee. So, when Califia asked me to develop a recipe with their Black Label Cold Brew, my imagination started racing with possibilities and I knew I needed to get back in the kitchen ASAP. Originally for this recipe, I set out to make a savory ‘cold brew coffee croissant’, adding the cold brew into the dough, with an expresso chocolate butter as a sweet element on the side, but the first batch of croissants sadly failed. Feeling bad about myself, I tightened my apron, did some research, and went back into the kitchen for take number two. I decided that I wanted to create a hybrid between croissants and Eva’s chocolate swirled brioche buns because too much chocolate is never a bad thing, right?!

Hello, friend.

It is 2016!! What?!

In even more exciting news, we’re celebrating a birthday today. TermiNatetor Kitchen just turned one-years-old *confetti cannon is heard*!

On January 3rd, 2015, the blog was officially launched, with little knowledge of how impactful this site would be on my life.  When originally thinking of how I was going to celebrate, I thought I would make a Funfetti cake or a stack of buttermilk pancakes just dripping in sweet maple syrup, though it just didn’t seem to fit. I wanted something festive, warm, and delicious. Around the holiday season, I enjoy dining on two things; cinnamon rolls and eggnog. My decision was finalized. Eggnog cinnamon rolls.

Sweet Balsamic Roasted Grapes, Becoming a Columnist, & an Ode to Autumn

Sweet Balsamic Roasted Grapes, Sweet Balsamic Roasted Grapes, Sweet Balsamic Roasted Grapes, Sweet Balsamic Roasted Grapes, Sweet Balsamic Roasted Grapes,

“Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.”

-          Robert Frost “Nothing Gold Can Stay”

Hello, friend.

Halloween was recently upon us. The holiday brings about a season of change. Autumn colors turn to bleak, white winters. Falling leaves become glistening snow. It’s a time of reflection. I find beauty in this time of simplicity. I find joy in the pace of change. Finding new light and choosing an undiscovered angle pushes me to discover and grow. The mundane revives me. It teaches me to take life one step at a time, to appreciate less and cherish more. It tells me that nothing can stay forever. No flower blooms for eternity. So, as I hold tightly to my pumpkin spice latte and listen to “Monster Mash” for the eight-hundredth time, I’m reminded that time forever ticks onward. That also means Christmas is quickly drawing near.

Hello, friend.

It’s almost August already, and I’m not in agreeance with that. Where is the time going? The world in constant rotation. Time is quickly passing. The sky changes its vantage point upon the constellations. The air begins to shifts as the humidity rises. Where has summer gone? I’m currently in the midst of preparing to uproot my entire life, my friends, my work, and my family and head off to school. In two weeks, I’ll pack up my array of clothes and kitchen utensils in our family van and head an hour away to my new apartment. My first place. My blank slate. My oasis. My bachelor pad. My open book. The place where childhood comes to an end and my adult life story begins. More information on the new place in the future, so stay tuned.

Salted Caramel Sauce │ My Fourth Attempt

“Just because you fail once doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything.” - Marilyn Monroe

You might be wondering about the “fourth attempt” addition to the title? On this blog, I don't only want to talk about my successes, but also my failures, and this was definitely a failure. I adore salted caramel sauce. It’s salty, sweet , and has a nutty essence, that works beautifully drizzled over a bowl of ice cream. What I hate is spending money on ingredients, getting half way through the recipe, only to find out the recipe is bad or  I made a minor, “no-turning-back-now” mistake, and having to start over. In a 24 hour period, I had attempted the sauce four times, and finally succeeded after countless dirty pans, sticky counters, and disappointing scowls.  Also, the sugar, which had the consistency of concrete, then had to be scraped, chiseled, and otherwise finagled out of the cookware.
